I blame the Greeks
Last week, I reported god’s anger toward us for pushing a gay/environmental/equality agenda. But I was wrong. It wasnt him, I gave him too much credit. looking down on Earth from Mt. Olympus, one thing is abundantly clear: Zeus is pissed. Aside from being the King of Gods, he is also the god of weather, the god of law and order, law and order: SVU, and the god of fate.
Working chiefly with Poseidon (god of the sea, rivers, floods, droughts, and earthquakes), these two have wreaked havoc across America. An earthquake on the east coast, devastating floods from Hurricane Irene, and historic flooding along the Mississippi River.
And now, Hephaestus (god of fire), is getting in on the fun by spreading more and more wildfires. Half the country is burning, the other half is being washed away!!
We’ve also learned that the USPS is “operating on a week’s worth of cash” according to the Postmaster General and could face shutdowns. Clearly the work of Hermes, the god of messengers, language, and writing.
And it also seems that Hera, queen of marriage, women, and childbirth, has defected to the Tea Party to help them put a stop to reproductive rights in dozens of states.
Last, but not least, who could forget Hades? King of the underworld, god of the dead, and leader of the tea party. His strangle hold seems to be iron-clad. He could not be reached for comment.
Current reports suggest that several of the other gods, primarily Aphrodite (goddess of love and beauty), Apollo (god of music, healing, and poetry), Ares (god of manly courage and civil order), and Athena (goddess of wisdom, heroic endeavor, and reason) are in hiding, strategizing on a way to overthrow these dark times. this could not be confirmed independently, however.
But being that these gods are Greek, and that the current state of Greece is, well…its pretty bad, there is one thing we can do: kick these gods to the curb and start hanging out with the Norse God’s. After all, Germany does have its shit together!! See you at Oktoberfest with Loki, Thor, and Odin!

Reqium for a Default
Attention: This post is a stepping stone. There will be many that tangent off over the next few weeks until August 2nd. that is all.
ok, it’s go time. As many of you know (hopefully…please please please), we are facing debt default in 18 days. This is bad. Why is it bad you say? have you ever defaulted on something? the creditors come calling, your credit gets hit to shit, and its harder to get more credit or loans. and that’s what America, AS A COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, is staring at.
Ok, no bigs…lets just pay our obligations. ohh wait, we cant. Ok, soooooo what do we do? Three options:
1) default.
2) raise the debt ceiling.
3) figure out how to save money AND make money to bridge the gap between what we have and what we need.
#1 is just stupid. if anyone thinks that defaulting is an acceptable idea, please find the nearest train track and lay down on it.
“What is the debt ceiling exactly? It’s a cap set by Congress on the amount of debt the federal government can legally borrow. The cap applies to debt owed to the public (i.e., anyone who buys U.S. bonds) plus debt owed to federal government trust funds such as those for Social Security and Medicare.” The ceiling is currently set at $14,293,975,000,000…that’s how much we as a nation currently owe.
IF WE DEFAULT then our AAA credit rating gets dropped, we wont be able to pay all our internal obligations (medicare, medicaid, social security, active military pay, veterans benefits, etc.), external obligations to other countries, the dollar would be severally hurt, world markets would go into a tailspin, our economy would be crippled, and it would possibly destroy our bond market and stock market. for those keeping score, that’s all bad. BUT WAIT!! Some Republicans have posited that such a shock to the economic system could actually be a good thing. “By defaulting on the debt, in the short and long term, it could benefit us to go through a period of crisis that forces politicians to make decisions” on major policies that affect the budget, said Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA). jesus…
So why not just raise the debt ceiling? even if it is raised, we still have to pay!! and we WILL hit the ceiling again. Since 1980, the debt ceiling was raised 39 times. raising alone will not be enough.
and now we come to #3: spend less, make more. this translates to spend less, raise taxes. now hold on, hold on…stop yelling at the screen and sit the fuck down. yes…raise taxes. It makes complete sense. We spend too much and don’t tax correctly, so it’s not even a matter of increasing taxes, but more of fixing the tax code (which will result in increases). point being, it needs to be done.
so whats the hold up? republicans. The democrats are willing to cut spending all over the place. but the republicans are COMPLETELY UNWILLING to even ENTERTAIN the notion of raising taxes. awesome, thanx guys. let’s look at this objectively. the GOP claims that raising taxes will create more unemployment and be detrimental to the economy, rather then helpful. but i recall that during the Clinton administration, he RAISED TAXES and CREATED 23 MILLION JOBS!!! When Bush came in, he CUT TAXES and only 3 MILLION jobs were created. solid GOP logic if i ever heard it. AND dems only want taxes raised on the wealthy, on multi-billion dollar corporations THAT DONT PAY TAXES, and a fix on tax loopholes.
I could go on and on about this…and i intend to. see you soon.

ps. despite the disdain i have for the republicans, its the tea party that is truly a cancer on this Great Nation.
